First and foremost, we, at Helistar, would like to thank you for your interest in our company. We are excited about the opportunity to serve you. Owned and operated by husband and wife, Keith and Adelynn Chapman, Helistar Aviation has been serving Nashville and the Middle Tennessee area for over five years. Safety is our primary focus. Therefore, we only employ pilots which reinforce that commitment. Our pilots have over 180 years of combined experience along with over 145,000+ flight hours, some in both helicopters and airplanes. With twelve pilots, nine instructors and a Designated Pilot Examiner as one of our owners, there will always be someone available to meet your helicopter needs. Helistar employs a full-time mechanic to ensure that all of our equipment remains in top condition.

Keith Chapman

Keith Chapman

Keith began his aviation career crop dusting in his hometown of De Leon, Texas. After six years of owning and operating a successful aerial application business, he was employed by a commuter airline. Keith worked as a pilot for several airlines and corporations before being hired by Southwest Airlines in 1986. He continues to fly for Southwest as a senior Captain. Keith began flying helicopters locally when he moved to Nashville. Keith is an instructor and a Designated Pilot Examiner [DPE] for the FAA; including both Fixed-Wing and Rotorcraft. He is the only Robinson h DPE in Tennessee. Keith holds an Aircraft and Powerplant mechanic rating. With over 30,000 hours, Keith enjoys the thrill of aviation as much now as he ever has.

Adelynn Chapman

Adelynn Chapman

Adelynn became interested in aviation while in high school at St. Cecilia Academy in Nashville, TN. Adelynn went on to attend O’More College of Design where she graduated with a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising. Towards the end of college, Adelynn returned to taking flight lessons at John C. Tune Airport. She earned her Single Engine Private Pilots Certificate in the spring of 2008. Adelynn earned her seaplane rating in March 2009 after attending Jack Brown’s Seaplane Base. Adelynn runs her own construction companies, Arlyn Homes, and AMF Construction, in which she started in 2004. As a third generation builder, she specializes in residential homes and small commercial. She obtained her real estate license as well and has been with Battle Ground Realty for the past nine years. Adelynn earned her instrument rating in 2011 and her helicopter rating in 2012. She is currently working on her Commercial Fixed-Wing and multi-engine ratings. Adelynn loves owning and operating Helistar Aviation and AMF Investments, LLC with her husband, Keith Chapman. She enjoys all of their flying adventures that enable them to create incredible memories together.

Joel Boyers

Joel was introduced to aviation through an uncle who had past military aviation experience; Joel went with his uncle to numerous air shows when he was a kid. Then, when he was twelve, Joel went on his first airplane ride with a friend’s father, who owned an aerobatic plane. In 2002, after graduating from St. Petersburg College in Florida, he lived on a sailboat in the Gulf of Mexico; it was on that adventure that he made the decision to attend helicopter flight school. He attended Vortex Helicopters in New Iberia, LA and received his Private, Instrument, Commercial, CFI, and CFII Rotorcraft Certificates. The company was purchased by Bristow Academy where Joel was hired on as a helicopter Instructor. Joel then flew for a major offshore oil company. As a Captain of a Bell 206 L3/L4 Long Ranger, Joel transported workers and equipment to offshore rigs. Joel then made the decision to move back to Tennessee and joined the Helistar team in early 2010 as a Commercial Pilot and Instructor. Joel is the Chief Pilot & Chief Flight Instructor of Helistar Aviation and their FAA Part 135 Pilot. He has enjoyed an accident-free aviation career.

Trey Tucker

Trey Tucker

Trey developed his dream of flying at a young age when he was given the opportunity by one of his father’s friends to fly along with him. He knew then that he wanted to learn how to fly. In 1986, Trey began flying out of the Lewisburg, TN airport and that is where he earned his Private Pilots Certificate. He went on to earn additional ratings in single and multi-engine aircraft along with his Instrument Rating and Commercial and CFI Certificates. At the time, Trey owned and operated his own business that he decided to sell to pursue a career in aviation. Trey worked as a corporate pilot and flight instructor at John C. Tune Airport in Nashville, TN. He then found himself at Cornelia Fort Airpark, Colemill, in the charter department; He became their Part 135 Training Captain. He then moved into sales and marketing at Colemill, overseeing the buying, selling, and refurbishing of aircraft. Trey’s passion for flying helicopters lead him to earn his rotorcraft rating. Trey currently has his CFI, CFII, and MEI ratings as well. In 2011, Trey was excited to be able to join the Helistar family as a Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor.

Jake Hughey

Jake Hughey

Jake began learning to fly helicopters at the age of 17 while still attending high school. He knew from day one that it was what he wanted to do. He earned his Private Pilot Rotorcraft Certificate in just four months and went on to earn his Commercial and Flight Instructor Certificates soon after. Jake did all of his training with Helistar Aviation. Currently, Jake is working on his Instrument Rating along with working to become an Instrument Instructor. He anticipates adding these ratings to his Certificate by the spring of 2013. In 2012, Jake was very excited to officially join the Helistar team as a Helicopter Flight Instructor and Commercial Pilot.

Kevin Gallagher

Kevin Gallagher

Kevin got his start in airplanes by jumping out of them while in college. He soon realized his love for aviation of all types and began the long climb up the career ladder, adding license after license and rating after rating until becoming a Boeing 747-400 Captain with the world’s largest airline. Flying long international routes gives him more time off to enjoy flying helicopters at Helistar. He holds the highest FAA Certificate (Airline Transport Pilot) in both airplanes and helicopters, along with Instructor and Instrument Instructor in helicopters. Additionally, Kevin is a Flight Examiner with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Aviation Program, flying missions for the Department of Homeland Security. After 36 years of commercial flying, and over 25,000 hours, he hasn’t lost his love for the sky!

Levi Davis

Levi Davis

Levi became interested in flying helicopters at a young age when he saw a life flight helicopter on the highway one evening. He then began taking helicopter lessons at the age of 16 and immediately knew he wanted to peruse a career in aviation. He began his training at Kansas Copters in Augusta, Kansas where he received his Rotorcraft Private and Commercial Certificates along with his Instrument rating. More recently his aviation career led him to Nashville, Tennessee where he received his Certified Flight Instructor Certificate at Helistar Aviation. After earning his CFI, Levi joined the Helistar team as a commercial pilot and flight instructor in early 2012.

John Branam

John Branam

John found his love for flying at an early age when his uncle started taking him to his flying lessons.  After many years of flying along with his uncle, Rex, he obtained more than 150 hours of turbine time in the Piper Cheyenne II and many multi-engine hours in the Beechcraft Travel Air.  He started taking helicopter lessons at Helistar in August of 2012 and fell in love with flying helicopters.  A few months later, he obtained his Private Pilot Rotorcraft certificate.  He is working on his Commercial Rotorcraft rating as well as his Certified Flight Instructor rating.  John is a recent graduate of the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Homeland Security with certifications in: Special Events Contingency Planning for Public Safety Agencies, Radiological Emergency Management, and Fundamentals of Emergency Management.  He speaks English and Spanish.  He hopes to fly for a metropolitan police department or federal agency one day.  He has also served the community through volunteering at: the Mississippi State Veterans Home assisting the needs of those who served our country, the Oxford Park Commission helping build and put on the annual Haunted Trail, and Room at the Inn serving and helping the less fortunate.
